NetSTAR Extends Access Log Analysis Service for Video Research Interactive
- Yahoo! Mobile sites added to categories for mobile Internet viewer analysis -
TOKYO May 18, 2010
TOKYO—May 18, 2010—NetSTAR, Inc., Japan’s premier developer of URL filtering product technologies and services, today announced that they will provide access log analysis services to Video Research Interactive (VRI) for use in their mobile Internet usage data service, Mobile Media Measurement (M3). NetSTAR will add Yahoo! Mobile sites to its filtering criteria processes, which have been analyzing iMode sites since 2009.
M3 is the ASP service provided by VRI to analyze mobile Internet usage. This commercial service has many applications, such as planning for mobile Internet advertising by comparing access trends between a customer’s site and their competitors, and creating visitor profiles. In 2009 VRI released a version of this service for NTT DoCoMo iMode users, and in April of this year they released a version for Yahoo! Mobile users. NetSTAR has been providing VRI with access log analysis services from the beginning but has widened its range of sites to categorize to keep pace with VRI’s service expansion of M3.
M3 uses VRI’s mobile site access logs to create site-view statistics by day, time of day, user profile, domain name, site name, and site genre.
NetSTAR provides the category analysis necessary to display statistics by site genre. NetSTAR regularly receives mobile site access logs from VRI, analyzes them, and assigns them to a view analysis category. These categories are more useful than the domain name or site name for helping M3 users understand the content of sites without having to personally visit each site.
NetSTAR provides companies, families, and mobile phone operators with URL lists and related technology, with up to 77 filtering categories that cover most illegal and harmful sites.
The view analysis categories, on the other hand, provide a comprehensive coverage of primarily general information sites. These categories cover 65 fields, including portal sites, weather, and news, and traffic information. VRI’s mobile site access logs are first automatically categorized using the proprietary NetSTAR URL Categorizer system, after which a researcher visually confirms the content before final placement in a view analysis category.

NetSTAR will continue to collaborate with various partners in an effort to provide the global community with safe Internet access across a wide variety of platforms.
