TOKYO—April 1, 2010—NetSTAR, Inc., Japan’s premier developer of URL filtering product technologies and services, today announced the release of Akushitsu Site Block Family Smile in April of this year for four wireless LAN routers from the WN-G150R and WN-G300DR series from I-O DATA DEVICE.

　Computers are no longer the only household devices that connect to the Internet—now game devices and even televisions can, and with the popularization of Internet-based video games and the ability to view video sites on your television, usage is rapidly diversifying. In addition, most children’s first Internet experience is no longer via a computer or mobile phone – the majority now start with gaming devices. However, few filtering services or other methods to prevent access to inappropriate sites have been introduced for the wide range of Internet devices that now exist in households.
　NetSTAR considers it unrealistic to introduce individual filtering software for the increasing number of Internet-capable devices in households and so have been the first to focus on providing a filtering service for the router, a household’s gateway to the Internet. The major advantages of a router-based filtering service are that it does not require installation of software on computers and gaming devices or any special settings, making it less time-consuming to set up and less expensive to use.

　The new Family Smile filtering service uses the URL list for household filtering that is also used for mobile phone filtering. It also comes with various recommended rule settings for restricted site categories to help ease children into Internet use.
　NetSTAR will begin by making Family Smile available for four routers from I-O DATA’s WN-G150R and WN-G300DR series, which will go on sale in April of this year. A license for the first year of this service comes in a package with these routers, so you will be able to use the service immediately, without needing to sign up separately. It even comes with adult filtering rules that block access to websites such as fraudulent sites, so that adults can use the Internet with a greater peace of mind too.
