“Site Umpire” filtering service for small & medium businesses adopted by IIJ’s proprietary SEIL routers

- Enabling unified, error-free, and low-cost filter management for multiple sites -

TOKYO April 17th, 2009

NetSTAR, Inc. (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; president: Noboru Ogahara; hereinafter “NetSTAR”), a developer of URL filtering product technologies and services, also involved in the collection, categorization, and delivery of URL lists, hereby announces that from May 1, its “Site Umpire” filtering service for small & medium networks will be available in "SEIL", a series of routers developed by Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president: Koichi Suzuki; hereinafter “IIJ”).

“SEIL”, a series of proprietary routers that combines IIJ’s years of experience as an Internet service provider, has been available since 2002. With support for the proprietary “SMF (SEIL Management Framework)” network management system, the network devices allow for automatic configuration and complete management.
NetSTAR, on the other hand, has been offering its “Site Umpire” filtering services for business routers since 2007. Since Site Umpire is designed to run on a router, it allows for a significant reduction of operation cost in comparison to existing software alternatives. As such, Site Umpire is quickly gaining popularity amongst a range of enterprises, including small & medium businesses monitoring their employees’ Internet activities for the first time, as well as sales branches of larger businesses.
As of May 1, Site Umpire will become available from IIJ as a feature of SEIL routers. The SEIL-version of Site Umpire will come with a new “read-only access to forums” function, as well as a more flexible filtering settings. Existing users of the SEIL rental service, IIJ SMF sx service, or SEIL routers may also make use of Site Umpire by upgrading the SEIL firmware. For details on the firmware update and the service, visit http://www.seil.jp/.

Last but not least, we would like to share a comment we received from Kiyoshi Ishida, Director and Chief of SEIL Department of IIJ.
“I am very happy that we can now offer NetSTAR’s Site Umpire to the users of our SEIL series. With one of Japan’s largest URL database maintenance framework providing a year-round, 365-days categorization and visual confirmation, NetSTAR’s high-accuracy URL database, alongside the unified management feature that Site Umpire will add to our routers, is sure to please our customers, both existing and new.”

NetSTAR will continue to collaborate with various partners in an effort to provide the global community with safe Internet access across a wide variety of platforms.
