KDDI chooses NetSTAR’s URL lists for its “au one net Safety Access Service” web filtering service
- Deciding factors: track record in mobile phone web filtering, and convenience for the users -
TOKYO February 18th, 2009
NetSTAR, Inc. (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; president: Noboru Ogahara; hereinafter “NetSTAR”), a developer of URL filtering product technologies and services, also involved in the collection, categorization, and delivery of URL lists, hereby announces that KDDI CORPORATION (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; president and chairman: Tadashi Onodera; hereinafter "KDDI”) has adopted NetSTAR’s URL list for the “au one net Safety Access Service,” to be made available from March 18th via its “au one net” Internet connection service.
In an effort to provide a safer Internet environment for minors, “au one net” will begin providing the “au one net Safety Access Service” web filtering service on March 18, allowing users to regulate access to adult contents, dating sites, and other websites that may be inappropriate for minors.
The service will require the installation of Trend Micro’s filtering software, which can then be used to provide read-only access to forums, configure filtering rules to match your children's age, and manage the history (log) of visited websites. Configurations can be switched easily, so users of different ages can share the same computer but use different security settings.
Web filtering services generally use a list of surveyed and finely-categorized URLs, which is used to determine whether to allow access to the requested website. The accuracy of the filtering service is thus dependent on the completeness and correctness of the URL list. NetSTAR’s URL lists hold a share of over 40% in the Japanese corporate market, and are also adopted by all domestic mobile phone operators. The proven track record of our URL lists undoubtedly had a considerable effect on KDDI’s decision to use Trend Micro’s filtering software, which also use our URL lists.
Another key factor in the decision making was the fact that KDDI's “au” mobile phone service provides a filtering service that is also based on NetSTAR’s URL list. The URL lists for “au one net” and “au” are both categorized according to the same standards, making it easier for the users to make judgments and configure access rules.
"au one net Safety Access Service" will be provided as an optional service for a monthly fee of 252 yen. For more details, visit http://www.auone-net.jp/.
NetSTAR will continue to collaborate with various partners in an effort to provide the global community with safe Internet access across a wide variety of platforms.
