NetSTAR’s “Site Umpire” filtering service expands its partnership

- Century Systems business routers to offer an alternative for small&medium businesses-

TOKYO May 27th, 2008

NetSTAR Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Noboru Ogahara; hereinafter “NetSTAR”), the leading company in the Japanese web filtering industry, hereby announces a new partnership with Century Systems Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Musashino-shi, Tokyo; CEO: Susumu Tanaka; hereinafter “Century Systems”). The two companies will collaborate in their provision of a filtering service to small&medium businesses, making NetSTAR’s “Site Umpire” filtering service available on Century Systems’ “FutureNet XR-540/C” router for small&medium businesses.

NetSTAR has been marketing its “Site Umpire" filtering services to small&medium business offices since 2007, using Yamaha business routers as the hosting hardware. Since “Site Umpire” is designed to operate on a router, it can eliminate the cost associated with the installation and operation of a gateway server, which has previously been a prerequisite for URL filtering services. The service itself is also relatively inexpensive in comparison to competing software packages, with the annual license fee starting at 34,650 yen for 5 users, yet offering simple but accurate web access control.
Century Systems, on the other hand, develops and distributes network products to businesses within Japan. Its “FutureNet XR-540/C” router, by which “Site Umpire” will be supported, is a business router that does not require a full-time administrator, and is already widely adopted by many small&medium businesses.

A firmware update will be provided for existing customers of “FutureNet XR-540/C”, allowing them to utilize NetSTAR’s easy and inexpensive yet full-fledged URL filtering without needing to replace their router.
Implementation of “Site Umpire” support on “FutureNet XR-540/C” is scheduled for completion by the coming fall. Further details of the service and the firmware update will be provided at a later date.

NetSTAR is committed to providing the global community with Internet access that is safe for everyone, from home users to large enterprises, and for every device, be it a computer, mobile phone, or game console. To this effect, NetSTAR will continue to pursue opportunities to collaborate with various partners.
