Corega and NetSTAR Start Malicious Site Blocking Service for Home Routers
- Available even for Web browsing from portable game machines or internet appliances -
TOKYO June 14th, 2006
Corega K. K. (Headquarters: Yokohama, CEO: Akira Kato, "Corega") and NetSTAR Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Noboru Ogawara, "NetSTAR") announced that they start a new service starting from late June by integrating URL filtering service "Internet malicious site blocking service for BB routers" provided by NetSTAR into Corega's broadband router.
This service is a URL filtering service running on routers used to access Internet at home, and manages Internet browsing not only on personal computer, but on any information equipments such as portable game machine or Internet appliance that access Internet through routers.
Cumulative sales of portable game machine in Japan is 3 million for PSP and 8.43 million for Nintendo DS series (*1). In addition, Internet television is expected to become widespread boosted by the cooperation by domestic home appliance manufacturers. Increasing number of home users are expected to access Internet, not only on PC, but on portable game machines or Internet appliances in the future. In spite of this situation, there was no way to manage Internet access from information equipments other than PC.
In malicious site blocking service, Corega develops platform, and NetSTAR provides service using up-to-date URL database. Users of Corega routers that support this service can instantly enable filtering feature from the management screen of the router by simply accessing application site provided by NetSTAR. You don't have to install any software. After you enabled this service, you can select categories such as "Illegal", "Adult", or "Dating service" which you want to forbid browsing for each information equipment connecting to the router.
As the number of malicious Web sites such as Internet fraud is increasing, the number of "one click and charge claim" sites NetSTAR URL Research Center has detected and confirmed their existence has increased by seven times compared to the previous year. Survey by NetSTAR (*2) revealed that over 80% of parents are apprehending that they or their children might access malicious Web sites such as "one click and charge claim" sites.
Corega and NetSTAR, by starting this service, continue to provide safe and comfortable Internet access environment for any information equipments at home.
